Who can't resist the cute face pictured above. Especially during Thanksgiving Holiday it is tempting to give them something from our plates. Keep in mind what you want to give them, may not be good for them. Giving green beans alone is ok but giving them green bean casserole will make them sick. Just like Pumpkin is also good for your dog but don't serve them pumpkin pie. You know chocolate is bad for them, so keep the chocolate away from the little kids, who may not realize and feed them.
No matter how good you think the guacamole is, you shouldn't give it to your dog. Avocados contain a substance called persin. It's harmless for us humans who aren't allergic. But large amounts can be toxic to dogs.
Grapes and raisins are no good. So you should never feed them a grape or raisin. Although it isn't clear why, grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. Just a small amount can make a dog sick. So keep these out of reach.
Dogs should not eat macadamia nuts or foods containing macadamia nuts because they can be fatal. As few as six macadamia nuts can make a dog ill. That's why it's a good idea to not feed them casseroles, which have number of ingredients that can make them really sick.
Please don't feed them turkey skin and bones. The skin is fat and fat trimmed from meat is no good, and it may cause pancreatitis in dogs. Bones can also splinter and cause an obstruction or lacerations of your dog's digestive system. So don't give them turkey bones to chew on.
So while making your plans for the holiday just keep these things in mind. To make it the best for people and our pets.
Wishing you, your family and your pets a safe Thanksgiving Holiday!
