Dog Days of Summer

Dog Days of Summer are here. Nice to relax with the dogs in our yard. There is never enough time since we have been very busy working the farmers markets. It's going well, we have been selling out of dog treats every week. People are learning the need for natural, preservative free treats which are safer and healthier for their pets. We love spreading the word around one person at a time.
Wish we had more time to blog during the summer months, but we will at least post once a week during the summer and back to more informative blogs this fall.

How often do you blog during the summer?
How do you relax?

Fight your Dogs Bad Breath the Natural Way!

Our customers number one complaint is their dogs bad breath.  We are here to help you to solve these issues the natural way. Your dog may have bad breath for a number of reasons. Bad breath is caused by bacteria from build up in your dogs mouth. But there could be other reasons.  It is always advised to have your dog checked by a veterinarian to make sure your dog does not have an underlying problems like gastrointestinal tract, liver, or kidneys issues, that will show up in your dogs breath. So it's best to have check by a professional. Most dogs have plague build up which can be prevented. Here are some tips you can do to help prevent bad breath. Brush your dogs teeth daily, let your dog chew on hard safe chews, add Slurp N Fresh to their daily drinking water. We have found these methods to be the most effective. Since we can't brush our dogs teeth, (she will not let me near her mouth) I have found other ways to help clean her teeth. Mainly we give them braided bully sticks once a month which removes the plague from their teeth. We also give our dogs our homemade bad breath mint treats daily and we also use Slurp N Fresh in their water.  These methods combined work the best for us.

Ledfoots Pet Bakery makes homemade Bad Breath Mint dog treats. Which help with your dogs bad breath. Given daily and you and your dog will be happy. Made with natural ingredients parsley and mint are natural breath fresheners.

Slurp N Fresh is all natural oral hygiene solution. All you do is add a cap full to their daily drinking water. This is great for all pets, cats and dogs so no need to worry that your cats are drinking from the same bowl. It helps all pets.

Pet Treat Recall-Where to buy Safe Treats

Every day I keep hearing about new recalls, recently it's  been on pet treats. Since all the recalls on commercial pet foods I am not surprised by all the pet treats being recalled. It seems like someone is finally keeping an eye out for our animals. It should not have taken so long. If you feed your pets treats from the store, you should check to see if you purchased a recalled item.

Kasel Associates Industries Inc. announced a wide range of meat-based dog treats suspected of Salmonella contamination. The products were manufactured between April 20 and September 19, 2012 and distributed to a number of retailers, including Target, Petco, Sam’s Club and Costco.
Kasel has previously announced three recall notices for specific products manufactured during this time, after the Colorado Department of Agriculture found Salmonella in a retail sample of a Kasel product. Follow-up testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that 100 percent of tested products, as well as 48 out of 87 environmental samples, were contaminated with one of 10 Salmonella strains.
Affected brands include Boots & Barkley, Bixbi, Nature's Deli, K9 Chicken, TDBBS and Nutri-Pet.

Bravo just recalled 2lb tubes of Chicken blend raw-frozen diet food for dogs and cats because of possible salmonella contamination.

This is a small list and does not cover every recall, for more information, you can check this website daily to find out the most recent recalls just go to fda.gov

Here at Ledfoots Pet Bakery we make our own treats in small batches using the finest human grade ingredients. We do not use a manufacture of any kind, like companies in the latest recalls.  Because these other companies are using the same manufacturer there is a greater chance of cross contamination. That is why you hear of so many recalls at once. Ledfoots pet treats are never mass produced. We are proud of that. Yes, our treats are a little more expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Your pets will be much happier and healthier and you will be proud to give them a healthy safe treat that's made with love.
